If one of your late ancestors were to come back from the dead and join you for dinner, what things about your family would this person find the most shocking?
I think the most shocking thing for my ancestors would be that we are now all spread out! Think about it. Way back when families didn’t part from each other. They stayed together for decades, centuries even. If you read the bible, you know that the old testament is full of “families” in which our now towns are named after.
I think another shock would be how big the houses are for how small the families are today. And considering such modern day conveniences (running water, electricity, any kitchen appliance, canned food, refrigerators, television…) we have now compared to then, I think just the culture shock alone would send our ancestors back to the grave.
Of course, you don’t even need to go back to our ancestors. Simply look at the differences in living and what families did from our parents to now. Respect is one thing that is long gone. Respect for the family, especially the wife/mother. You think “Leave It To Beaver” is so outdated, well, people actually talked, dressed and behaved like that. More peaceful time. Material things weren’t nearly as important either…family was.
Makes you wonder what it will be like in a future, but I can’t help wonder if the human family gets replaced by robots. Seems the direction we are going. So for the time being, I’ll be happy with what I have and enjoy the short time I have here. Modern or not.
