By The Dots

We all have strange relationships with punctuation — do you overuse exclamation marks? Do you avoid semicolons like the plague? What type of punctuation could you never live without? Tell us all about your punctuation quirks!

Yes I do!!! Wait, no I don’t!!! Well…maybe I do; but I’m just not sure.

Ha!! See what I did there? (that was specifically for my husband)

I think the biggest problem is the lack of understanding in how to use certain punctuation marks, and how the lack of them (or overuse of them) can dramatically change the entire meaning. We are no longer a proper speaking society, as many of our “conversations” are simply letters; ie: lol, brb, l8t, etc…).

Honestly, it drives me crazy with all the shortcuts we take in our language today. That being said, how about a little lesson in the proper use of some of our favorite punctuation courtesy of the Online Writing Lab of Purdue University. This was a site I often went to in my college days. Online and free. A great writing resource.

You can check it out here.

    1. Thank you! I’m not sure I would have gotten through writing all my papers in college without this site, and I still find it a wonderful resource. Thank you for stopping by!
