You have to choose one flavor that your sense of taste will no longer be able to distinguish. Sweet, sour, bitter, salty, umami, spicy (not a taste per se, but we’re generous): which one do you choose to lose?
For me, it’s salty. I’m not a salt person. I don’t salt much of anything! Maybe the tiniest bit on my mashed potatoes, or on corn. I do enjoy some sea salt on freshly sliced tomatoes, but other than that, I really do not salt. I don’t even salt my eggs.
Food has enough sodium in it as is without adding more. And if I truly need more flavor, there are plenty of great herbs and spices out there to assist…that are way better than salt. And several herbs can be homegrown…which always tastes the best!
