Automation has made it possible to produce so many objects — from bread to shoes — without the intervention of human hands (assuming that pressing a button doesn’t count). What things do you still prefer in their traditional, handmade version?
Anyone who is a crafter probably just loves this prompt! Self-included, although I still buy “automation” produced objects.
I’m a knitter, and love to see an object come together by simply gliding yarn over my needles. There is such satisfaction in a handmade garment, but time (and money) does prevent me from exclusively wearing handmade objects.
However, in the winter, you will find me wearing one of my newest knitted hats, or pair of mittens. I have one hand knit scarf I made nearly four years ago that I simply love and still wear that. Although I would love to knit myself another.
So, yes, it is the craft of knitting that I prefer over something automated…at least when it comes to hats and mittens.
