Do you agree with Jane Fonda’s favorite exercise motto, “no pain, no gain?” Is it impossible to attain greatness without considerable hardship?
I think everything comes at some kind of price. Sometimes, that price is very little, and other times it’s nearly everything you have, but there is always a price involved.
But motive also has a lot to do with it. You can attain incredible greatness by simply volunteering. Doing something for someone else without yourself in mind will never bring hardship…and yet attain greatness, happiness, feelings of joy, maybe even a feeling of completeness.
I think the pain comes when we attempt to do things in which we only keep ourselves in mind. They yes, hardship will come. How often to we complete something and yet still feel so empty inside, so unfilled. We are creatures that simply want more…and that type of more will always come at a price.
By putting others first, we can lighten that hardship they are feeling…and attain an amazing feeling of joy within us! So no, it is not impossible to attain greatness without considerable hardship…we just have to change our thought process as to who we put first. Our self…or others.
